MCC ‘A’ enters semifinals

CHENNAI: MCC ‘A’ clinched a spot in the semifinals of the Sanmar-TNTA league 2009, beating NTC ‘A’ 3-0 on Tuesday. Other semifinalists include ETC ‘A’, Beasantnagar ‘A’ and NTC ‘A’.

Viswanathan and Thyagarajan win

A. Viswanathan and T.N. Thyagarajan won the Weekly Pairs bridge event at T. Nagar Social Club here on Tuesday with a score of 64.62 per cent in the North-South direction. N. Anant and R.V.S. Manian (63.89 per cent) won the East-West direction.

Kevin shines

Kevin Sukumar’s 115 enabled Adambakkam CC beat Guru Nanak Combines by seven wickets in a first division match of the Kancheepuram DCA cricket league held here recently.

The scores: I division: Fine Star 226 in 44.3 overs (Bharath 43, R. Karthik four for 52) lost to Garnet 227 for two in 40.1 overs (R. Ricky James 80 not out, S. Jayachandran 86 not out).

Fine Star 166 in 39.3 overs (S. Senthil Kumar four for 44) lost to Kattankulathur 168 for six in 27.4 overs (R. Lakshman 61 not out, Abishek Tanwar 58).

Guru Nanak Combines 222 for nine in 45 overs (Y. Sunny Kumar Singh 103, Sundaresan four for 60, Sethuraman four for 62) lost to Adambakkam 223 for three in 30.5 overs (Kevin Sukumar 115, T.S. Varadharaman 69).

II division: Mani Memorial 163 for eight in 30 overs (J. Jayakumar 45) lost to Leo 164 for four in 28.4 overs (J. Prem Kumar 40).

Shriram sizzles

A brisk 68 by Shriram helped SSN College beat Bharath University by 130 runs in the Dr. MGR Memorial inter-collegiate Twenty20 cricket tournament here on Wednesday.

Selection trials

St. Joseph’s College of Engineering will conduct trials for sports quota admissions on April 13 for various courses offered by the college.

Coaching camp

The Tamil Nadu Billiards and Snooker Association is organising a two-week beginners coaching camp for students from April 12 to 25 at the Association premises at 101-F, Royapettah High Road, Mylapore. Boys and girls between the age of 13 and 21 are eligible to join the course. The course timings are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the fee per student is Rs. 750.
