Leopards in deep trouble

— PHOTO: RITU RAJ KONWAR

Caring hands: Veterinary doctor Bijoy Gogoi brings out a female leopard from a well at Sonaigali village in Guwahati on Saturday. The animal had fallen into the well while searching for food. It was tranquillised by zoo officials and taken to the Guwahati Zoo. This is the second leopard that has been rescued from this area in a month. With deforestation and illegal encroachment in the hills, the leopards are fast disappearing from the forests.
