Maneka Gandhi’s charge

Pilibhit: As police fought pitched battles with BJP workers backing Varun Gandhi on Saturday, his mother Maneka Gandhi, who came here to meet him in jail, alleged that a Muslim police inspector injured 25 of his supporters.

Ms. Gandhi alleged that 45 people were injured in the police action, 25 of them by one particular inspector.

Claiming that she had been “keeping an eye on him for quite some time,” Ms. Gandhi said she was “saddened” by the police action and appealed to all sides to maintain calm.

She charged the police with committing excess and atrocities on “innocent” BJP workers. — PTI
