“Lenient approach by the authorities culminated in Aman’s death”

SHIMLA: The magisterial inquiry report by the Additional District Magistrate of Kangra in the infamous Aman Kachroo ragging case was submitted to the Himachal Government here on Saturday, said an official spokesman of the State Health Department.
The spokesman said the report elucidated the sequence of events that took place between March 6 and 8. It bore out the fact that many first year students of the medical college, including Aman Satya Kachroo, were subjected to intense physical ragging in the early hours of March 7.
The fact that ragging had taken place came to the notice of the college authorities only after a phone call was received by the State Health Minister on March 8.
The spokesman said that even as the college authorities had begun inquiring into the matter, Aman Kachroo collapsed and died due to injuries which the post-mortem report had linked to the incident of ragging.
He said the inquiry report stated that there was no recorded complaint about ragging in the college by Aman Kachroo or any relative prior to this incident.
He disclosed that the inquiry report has documented ten instances or complaints of ragging and acts of indiscipline in the college since 2001.
The inquiry report, he added, had concluded that the lenient approach taken by the college authorities in dealing with these instances had culminated in the unfortunate demise of Aman Kachroo.
