NEW DELHI: Condemning alleged killing of cows in Kishan Garh near Vasant Kunj in the Capital, Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president O. P. Kohli on Saturday demanded intervention of the Union Home Minister in the matter. In a statement, Prof. Kohli said the Home Minister should ensure that the guilty are caught and punished within a fixed time frame. Cautioning that such an incident would lead to tension unless the culprits were immediately caught and punished, Prof. Kohli said the heinous act had been carried out by those keen to disturb the peaceful atmosphere in the city. Protests erupted on Friday after villagers discovered cow carcasses on the outskirts of the village. “If the Government does not act strictly, anti-Hindu communal forces would succeed in their objective of disturbing peace ahead of the Lok Sabha elections,” the BJP leader said, adding that such incidents had been reported in the recent past and the police had assured of action against the culprits. “But no action has been taken so far,” he alleged. Referring to the incident in Kishan Garh, Prof. Kohli said carcasses of slaughtered cows were strewn around in the open to vitiate the atmosphere of communal harmony. “The incident has left the people disturbed,” he added.
