Government formation: PMK to abide by AIADMK decision

Special Correspondent

Ramadoss to call on Jayalalithaa, discuss seat sharing today

CHENNAI: Asserting that the Pattali Makkal Katchi is part of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led front, party founder S. Ramadoss said here on Friday that it would abide by any decision taken by the AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa and other leaders of the front on forming a government at the Centre after the Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing a press conference after releasing the PMK’s poll manifesto, Dr. Ramadoss, while replying to a question, said leaders of Left parties had gone on record that the question of choosing Prime Minister would be addressed only after elections. He clarified that the PMK would continue to remain with secular parties.

On Congress leaders M. Veerappa Moily and Kapil Sibal expressing the hope that the party would return to the Congress fold, Dr. Ramadoss said they had merely aired their desire.

Announcing that he would call on Ms.Jayalalithaa at her Poes Gardens residence on Saturday morning, Dr. Ramadoss said the parties would work out the modalities of seat sharing.

Asked if varying positions of the constituents of the AIADMK-led front on the Sri Lankan Tamils issue would affect the cohesive character of the alliance, Dr. Ramadoss replied in the negative. Ms.Jayalalithaa was actively involved in the issue and she had observed a fast. On the PMK’s ties with the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, which has decided to remain part of the DMK-led front, Dr. Ramadoss said they would continue to work together on issues such as Sri Lanka.

He said power situation, price rise, smuggling of rice, illicit sand quarrying and Sri Lankan Tamils’ question would be among the election issues.
