SSLC examinations begin

Flying squads formed in Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Kanyakumari to check malpractices

TIRUNELVELI: Amidst tight security and intense vigil by flying squads, a total of 38,144 students, including 18,076 boys and 20,068 girls, took the Secondary School Leaving Certificate examination that commenced at 119 centres across the district on Wednesday.

In Tirunelveli educational district, 13,264 students, including 6,026 boys and 7,238 girls, appeared for the examination, while 12,410 students, including 5,978 boys and 6,432 girls, from Cheranmahadevi educational district took the examination.

In Tenkasi educational district, 12,470 students, comprising of 6,072 boys and 6,398 girls, appeared for the examination.

Over 50 flying squads have been formed in the district with 120 members, each group having two to three officials, to check malpractices. Police personnel were deployed in front of the examination centres.

Tuticorin

The SSLC public examinations began here on Wednesday.

Collector G. Prakash inspected the examination at Caldwell Higher Secondary School, one of the centres in the district.

A total of 20, 887 students are appearing for the examinations in the district. In Tuticorin education district, a total of 13, 401 students, including 6,179 boys and 7,222 girls, are taking the exams. Similarly in Kovilpatti education district, a total of 7,486 students with 3, 643 boys and 3, 843 girl students are sitting for the public exams.

Eighty exam centres have been established. Of the total number of centres, 52 are located in Tuticorin and 28 in Kovilpattti educational district, the Collector said.

Nine nodal points have been formed in both educational districts to maintain the secrecy of question papers. Flying squads with 117 members have been deployed to carry out surprise checks to avert malpractices, if any, he said.

“Question paper will be given at 10 a.m. with a ten minute duration to go through it. Answer scripts (main sheets) will be provided at 10.10 a.m. Another five minutes will be provided to follow the instructions of the invigilators on how to fill the answer scripts,” P. Bright Xavier, Chief Education Officer, said. The examination will commence at 10.15 a.m. and will be concluded up to 12.45 p.m., he added.

Four visually challenged students in Tuticorin educational district and one from Kovilpatti education district are appearing for the examination at Caldwell Higher Secondary School, Tuticorin. The secondary Grade teachers from Government Schools were involved in scribe work assisting them.

With regard to private candidates, a total of 1, 483 students, including 522 students in Kovilpatti and 961 candidates in Tuticorin education districts are taking the examination at various centres, Mr. Xavier said. Grace Sulochana Rathnavathy, District Education Officer, and T. Rajaselvan, Head Master, Caldwell Higher Secondary School, were present.

Nagercoil

As many as 24,652 students, including 12,658 girl students, appeared for the SSLC examinations in Nagercoil, Thuckalay and Kuzuthurai educational districts on Wednesday.

Collector Rajendra Kumar made a surprise visit to the DVD Government Higher Secondary School and inspected the examination. A flying squad has also been formed under the leadership of Chief Educational Officer to prevent malpractices.
