GEORGETOWN (Guyana): Shivnarine Chanderpaul hit a classy, unbeaten 112 here on Sunday to guide the West Indies to 264 for eight in the allotted 50 overs against England in the second One-Day International at the National Stadium at Providence. The 34-year-old Chanderpaul, playing his 243rd ODI, cracked 10 fours off 134 balls in his century. He and Ramnaresh Sarwan added 133 runs for the third wicket to steady things for West Indies. The in-form Sarwan cracked four fours and two sixes in a fluent 74 off 89 balls. Fast bowler James Anderson led England’s attack with three for 37 off nine overs. Medium-pacers Paul Collingwood (three for 49) and Dimitri Mascarenhas (two for 53) also played important roles in the closing overs. Flying startAnderson gave England a flying start after West Indies won the toss and batted. The 26-year-old removed the openers as the home team limped to 24 for two. Lendl Simmons (0) edged to wicketkeeper Matt Prior while captain Chris Gayle (20 off 20 balls) was bowled off the inside edge. Sarwan and Chanderpaul, cheered by a capacity crowd of 15,000, revived the innings with their century stand that spanned 30 overs. — AP
