Lapang: Congress will stake claim at right time

NEW DELHI: The former Meghalaya Chief Minister, D.D. Lapang, on Saturday accused the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader P. A. Sangma of “losing his balance and getting lost in the political wilderness.”

Talking to reporters here, Mr. Lapang, who is also the Leader of Opposition in Meghalaya, where the President’s rule was imposed and the Assembly kept under suspended animation earlier this week, welcomed the Governor’s recommendation to the Centre.

Asserting that the Congress was not involved in the “toppling game,” Mr. Lapang said the party would stake its claim to form a government at the “right time” and added that the party was not in a “hurry.”

He described the NCP-led Meghalaya Progressive Alliance (MPA) as a “bundle of contradictions” which had neither managed the government well nor emerged as a performance-oriented regime over the past year.
