AIIMS denies performing no-switch operations on neo-natal patients

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has refuted claims that no-switch operations were being performed on neo-natal patients since the suspension of Dr. A. K. Bisoi of the Cardio Thoracic Vascular Surgery unit there.

“The Institute takes strong exception to such misinformation and refutes such reports as this is totally incorrect. There are five more surgeons in the department who perform operations. The surgeons are Balram Airan, Shiv Kumar Choudhary, Ujjwal Kumar Choudhary, Sachin Talwar and V. Devagourou,” said an AIIMS release.

Generally, arterial switch operations on neo-natal patients are required to be done within six weeks of birth.

Doctor’s leave cancelled

“In the month of January, 13 switch operations were performed by three different surgeons of the department. Institute Director R. C. Deka has issued instructions to the department to ensure that five listed surgeons attend patients here. In public interest, AIIMS has also cancelled the leave of Shiv Kumar Choudhary of the department to attend to any such listed surgeries,” added the release.
