‘BJP government in State has taken up various development works’ ‘State witnessed much development during the NDA Government’s rule’ Raichur: The former Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Raichur Lok Sabha constituency Raja Amareshwara Naik has alleged that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government has failed to protect the interests of the common man. Mr. Naik was speaking after inaugurating a booth-level party workers’ conference here on Sunday. He said that the UPA Government was responsible for price rise which had affected the common man. The uncontrolled price rise had also affected development in every sector. Overall, the people were not happy with the performance of the UPA Government, he claimed. He called upon party workers to take advantage of the situation while asking people to vote in favour of the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections. Mr. Naik said that in the nine months the BJP had ruled in the State, the government had taken up various development works for the welfare of farmers and the poor. He said that Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa had made necessary budgetary allocations for modernisation of the Tungabahdra Left Bank Canal and improving the existing irrigation system under the Narayanapura Right Bank Canal of the Upper Krishna Project. He said that the BJP Government was the first to approve the establishment of a new agriculture university in Raichur. The government had already released necessary funds and appointed the Special Officer to proceed with its development. The farmers would benefit from this in the coming years, he said. The former MLA A. Papa Reddy said that the State had witnessed much development during the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government’s rule. Some major issues such as the linking of rivers and development of major transportation system, which were in full swing during the NDA regime, had been neglected by the UPA Government. The people were well aware of these issues and would certainly back the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections, he said. The MPs of other parties, who were elected from the constituency, had failed to respond to the problems faced by the people in the region. The people should teach a lesson to those parties, who cheated them by making false promises, he said. Rajkumar, president of the BJP city unit; Jagannath Kulkarni, chairman of the Raichur Development Authority and U. Malleshappa, vice-president of the Raichur City Municipal Council; and Bandesh Vakamdinni, general secretary of the district unit of the party, were present.
