THANJAVUR: Five hundred students have been selected for B. Ed. course under distance education scheme of Tamil University for 2009-2010. A press release issued here by the university said that the selection was done on merit basis and strictly following the reservation of Tamil Nadu Government. The admission for various subjects are as follows: Tamil 150, English 50, Maths 100, Science 100 and Social Science 100. Twenty students have been selected under reservation for handicapped and ex-servicemen. In general category 135 have been selected, 132 in backward classes, 18 under backward class Muslims, Most backward 100, SC 90 and ST 5. In Tamil, A. Seetha from Kanyakumari was the first student to get admission with a score of 83.75, Glide Peter Sivester Veyis of Tiruchi is the first student to get admission in English with a score of 70.36, M. Valarmathi of Dindigul in Maths with 97.33, M. Amutha from Virudunagar in science with 91.55 and A. Rathidevi of Coimbatore in Social Science with 91.6. Students can get details about selection in the website www.tamiluniversity.ac.in. Interviews for the selected students will be held this month at the directorate of distance education in the University.
