More than 10 lakh voters in Thanjavur constituency

Thiruvaiyaru with 1,90,675 is the biggest Assembly segment

THANJAVUR: The reconstituted Thanjavur Lok Sabha constituency has an electorate of 10,43,890, said Collector M. S. Shanmugham here on Saturday.

Speaking at a meeting of representatives from all political parties to discuss about the conduct of Lok Sabha elections, Mr. Shanmugham said that there were 5,16,790 men and 5,26,100 women in the constituency, comprising Mannargudi, Orathanadu, Thiruvaiyaru, Thanjavur, Pattukottai and Peravurani Assembly segments.

The biggest Assembly constituency was Thiruvaiyaru with 1,90,675 voters.

And the smallest Assembly segment was Peravurani with 1,59,223 voters.

There would be 1,329 polling booths in the constituency.

Electors Photo Identity Cards had been issued to 99.14 per cent of the voters and 27,000 new cards issued for this election. Those who have not received it could apply for the same in the respective Tasildhar office and get it.

Those who have photo identity cards alone could exercise their franchise in the coming Lok Sabha elections as per the announcement made by the Election Commission of India, Mr. Shanmugham said.

The Collector appealed to the political parties to adhere to the election code of conduct. N. Selvaraj, district assistant secretary of DMK; M. Rangaswamy, district secretary (North) of AIADMK; Nanji K.Varadarajan, district congress president; R. Kanagaraj, district secretary of PMK; A. Raghu Amarnath, district secretary of BJP; V. Jeevakumar, district committee member of CPI-M; and R.Thirugnanam, district secretary of CPI, among others, participated in the meeting.
