HYDERABAD: Former Chairman of Satyam Computer Services B. Ramalinga Raju and four others were taken into custody by CBI sleuths here on Tuesday, following a court order.

The CBI officials handed over a copy of the order issued by XVI Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate to officials of Chanchalguda Central Prison where they were lodged and took custody of them.

Tight security

Apart from Mr. Raju, his younger brother and former MD of Satyam Computers B. Rama Raju, former Chief Financial Officer Srinivas Vadlamani, the suspended auditors of Price Waterhouse S. Gopalakrishnan and Srinivas Talluri, were picked up at 10.30 a.m. amid tight security.

All the five accused in the Satyam fraud case were brought to Dilkusha guesthouse for interrogation. Responding to an appeal by the CBI, the court granted custody of them for seven days up to March 17.

Sources said that the CBI officials could “achieve significant breakthrough” during the course of interrogation of Mr. Raju, though they declined to divulge further details.

Mr. Raju, on his part, is learnt to have stuck to the letter he addressed to the erstwhile Board of Directors of the company on January 7 and a copy of which was marked to the Securities and Exchange Board of India.

Several teams, including Income Tax, SFIO, SEBI and Enforcement Directorate, were also present during the interrogation.
