Grand alliance’s seat-sharing pact may take more time

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The seat-sharing talks between the Telugu Desam and other grand alliance partners, TRS and Left parties, resumed on Tuesday but there were enough hints to the effect that there could be at least three more such rounds before they come to a proper understanding.

The Telugu Desam Party president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, is stated to have handed over a list of 20 constituencies each to the State CPI and CPI (M) leaders, K. Narayana and B. V. Raghavulu to select the ones from where they could field their candidates. He told them that the party was prepared to forego one or two seats here and there provided they were confident of winning from there. Mr. Naidu is believed to have clarified to the leaders that the list was merely indicative and his party’s perception of constituencies where Left parties were strong.

They could peruse and discuss it within the party and that they had the freedom to differ with it. After the talks, Mr. Narayana told mediapersons that some proposals had come up for discussion and the same would be discussed in the State Committee meeting which was under way.
