MRPS defends claim for seats in ‘grand alliance’

Manda Krishna says KCR has sounded him for Peddapalli LS seat

MRPS plans to field one activist from one constituency in each of 23 districts

‘Seven seats will be allotted to those supporting the MRPS cause’

HYDERABAD: Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) president Manda Krishna has defended his claim for allotment of four Lok Sabha and 30 Assembly seats by the four-party ‘grand alliance’ and said that this was on the lower side given its vote-garnering strength across the State.

At a press conference in the office of the Most Backward Castes (MBC) Welfare Association here on Tuesday, he said MRPS leaders had submitted written proposals to each constituent of the grand alliance justifying their demand.

KCR’s request

Mr. Krishna said the Telangana Rashtra Samithi president, K .Chandrasekhar Rao, had asked him to contest for the Lok Sabha from Peddapalli (SC) constituency in Karimnagar district. “While I am personally not very keen, I will have to heed to Mr. Rao’s request,” he said.

“All the Lok Sabha seats we have asked - Nagarkurnool, Warangal and Peddapalli in Telangana and Amalapuram - are reserved for the Scheduled Castes,” he said.

“In the 30 Assembly seats the MRPS was asking for, we intend to field one MRPS activist from one constituency in each of the 23 districts.”

Act of gratitude

The balance of seven seats, Mr. Krishna said, were intended to help those who gave their unstinted support to the 15-year-old agitation of the MRPS.

The break-up includes one each for the physically handicapped, an upper caste, Backward Class, Scheduled Tribes and Muslims and two for MBCs.

“We want to express our gratitude to those who helped us by sending one member each from the said groups of people to the Assembly,” he said.

Support extended

Kolli Nageswara Rao (Vikalangula Hakkula Poratha Samithi-VHPS) and Sandrapalli Venkataiah (MBC Welfare Association), who were also present, pledged their total support to the MRPS and said they would work for the ‘grand alliance’.
