Bengaluru in sole lead

VISAKHAPATNAM: Second-seeded Bengaluru shocked top seed Chennai ‘A’ 2.5-1.5 to emerge the sole leader with eight match points at the end of the fourth round of the 11th National cities chess championship, being organised by the East Coast Chess Academy, here on Tuesday.

Chennai ‘C’ outwitted Hyderabad to follow the leader with seven match points. Sivakasi, Chennai ‘A’ and Hyderabad ‘A’ are in the third spot with six points each.

Visakhaptnam was held to a 2-2 draw by Hyderabad ‘B.’

The results: Fourth round: Chennai ‘A’ (6) lost to Bengaluru (8) 1-1/2-2-1/2; Chennai ‘C’ (7) bt Hyderabad City (4) 2-1/2-1-1/2; Hyderabad ‘A’ (6) bt Warangal (4) 3-1/2-1/2; Sivakasi (6) bt Hyderabad ‘C’ (4) 4-0; Kolkata City (6) bt Vizag ‘A’ 3-1/2-1/2; Hyderabad ‘B’ (3) drew with Visakhapatnam 2-2; Kadapa (3) drew with Chennai ‘B’ (3) 2-2; Vizag ‘D’ (1) drew with Vizag ‘C’ (3) 2-2; Vizag ‘E’ lost to Vizag ‘B’ (2) 1/2-3-1/2.
