DU to act tough on Holi hooligans

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Delhi University has taken several steps to secure the campus and check hooliganism during Holi this Wednesday.

“Anyone who indulges in acts of gross indiscipline and causes harassment of any kind would be subject to strict disciplinary action under provisions of University Ordinance XV-B and XV-C. The Delhi Transport Corporation crew has been instructed to take the bus to the nearest police station in case of any hooliganism or drive the buses with the lights switched on so that the nearest PCR van can intercept it and take action,” said a release issued by the Registrar’s Office on Monday.

The University has warned students that playing Holi during working hours would not be permitted in any educational institution. Entry to colleges would be strictly through identity cards.

All Principals, Heads of the Departments and Provosts of Halls/Hostels have been asked to be available at their respective institutions to take care of any incident by activating their disciplinary committees.

The police will deploy their personnel at strategic positions around colleges. Mobile patrol squads will also be pressed into service.

A control room would be set up at 16 Chhatra Marg on the North Campus, jointly manned by the Delhi police, the DTC authorities and the University officials to deal with any untoward incident. Its telephone number is 27667221.

On the South Delhi Campus, the office of the Deputy Dean of Students’ Welfare will function as the joint control room. Its telephone number is 24119832.
