NEW DELHI: Three persons, including a jeweller, have been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police in connection with several cases of chain snatching reported from different parts of the Capital. Two stolen motorcycles and four chains have allegedly been recovered. Prime accused Shailender (27), a Delhi University graduate, and his accomplice Aman (25) had allegedly been active in Rohini, Prashant Vihar, Saraswati Vihar, Maurya Enclave, Shalimar Bagh, Ashok Vihar, Roop Nagar and Model Town during the past six months. Shailender and Aman were found to be involved in 16 cases of chain snatching, the police said. The duo had rented well-furnished flats in Shalimar Garden and Sahibabad in Uttar Pradesh and abandoned their known addresses in the Capital to avoid being caught by the police. Jeweller Amit Verma (28), a resident of Shahdara, has been arrested for allegedly receiving stolen chains from the duo. “The accused had sold a chain to Amit six months ago for the first time saying that Aman’s mother was ill and they were in need of money to buy medicines. The jeweller later learnt that the two were engaged in chain snatching. He would buy the chains at throwaway prices. He has no criminal record,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Satyendra Garg. Shailender and Aman were arrested at the Seemapuri bus depot on March 4 following a tip-off. Amit was later arrested at their instance.
