New Delhi: A court here on Monday rejected the bail plea of a Delhi Government’s senior officer accused of seeking bribe from a man for regularising his fair price shop. Special Judge A S Yadav refused to release Yashpal Talwar, Assistant Commissioner in Food and Civil Supplies department, on bail after noting that his role had come on records in the tape-recorded conversations between him and the complainant. “I have gone through the entire transcript. The transcript shows that the accused demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh and accepted part payment of Rs 20,000. The allegations against him are serious. I am not inclined to grant him bail,” the Judge said. Mr. Talwar was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on February 17 following a complaint made by Ankur Goyal, alleging that the accused demanded Rs 1 lakh from him for permanent revocation of cancellation order against his fair price shop. The ACB also conducted a sting operation which revealed a transaction of Rs 20,000 being allegedly made to the Personal Assistant of Mr. Talwar. The balance amount was paid subsequently and the permission was accorded in back date, the ACB alleged. -- PTI
