NEW DELHI: Penguin Books India has announced a special promotion of its classics range which will take off with a week-long open-air “Penguin Classics Library” at the amphitheatre of India Habitat Centre here this Thursday. The open library, a unique concept planned for the first time in India by a publisher, will have on display the entire range of Penguin classics and provide readers with a great ambience in which to browse, read and discuss their favourite classic over hot cups of coffee. Many activities around classics will also take place during the week at the venue including live jazz music on the opening day (March 12) and launch of Rabindranath Tagore’s “Nationalism” (with an introduction by eminent author Ramachandara Guha) on March 17 evening. There will also be readings and a lively interactive discussion on “What makes a book a classic”. The curtain will come down on the event with a Classic Quiz for all age groups to be conducted by Sunit Tandon on March 18. The Penguin classics special promotion will run through this year across different cities and also include exhibitions, talks, readings, competitions, quizzes and other activities. Special mini-siteAs part of its online activity on classics, Penguin has launched a special classics mini-site, www.penguinbooksindia.com/classics, featuring the complete range of classics. It will also start “Blog a Penguin India Classic” soon at http:blogaoenguininidiaclassic.blogspot.com/ encouraging readers and book clubs throughout the country to celebrate the complete range of Penguin India classics by blogging about them.
