Letters to the Editor
What does Slumdog Millionaire mean to India? For some, it is an opportunity to smear themselves with self-praise and continue to live in a delusion of grandiosity. To the passionate Indian unwilling to tolerate any criticism, it is a conspiracy by a foreigner to throw some mud at the shining face of India. To the sensible lot, however, it is a mirror against their faces to stare at the reality. It is important to pick up the message behind the movie. The issues highlighted should be looked into with a view to solving them. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Srinagar If India can compete with the world economy, why can’t we Indians be of some help to children in the slums? Can we not make a difference to them? I am sure today there are many among us who can take care of them. If we put our minds to it, a day will come when there will be no Indian child in the slums and no film director showcasing them. Let us all work towards making this difference. Ashish Jacob Thomas, Hyderabad
