Slumdog Millionaire and Smile Pinki, which won the Oscar for the best documentary film, have stolen the show for India in world cinema. There is no doubt that the future belongs to India which has made significant progress in all fields, including sports, and science and technology.

The success at the Oscars will encourage directors to take up new challenges. But we must also remember that Slumdog is an English film, although it is set in India. One hopes the day is not far off when an all-Indian film crew will make it big.

Three Oscars for three Indians on a single day for a film — we couldn’t have asked for better. Rahman, Gulzar, and Resul Pookutty, and Megan Mylan have put India on the global map.
