Motorcyclist battling for life Injured car driver undergoing treatment HYDERABAD: A Skoda ran over a traffic constable killing him on the spot and seriously injuring a motorcyclist at Habsiguda on Sunday morning. The accident occurred when constable Yogendra Kumar Rai (46) was regulating traffic after Home Minister K. Jana Reddy’s convoy passed the area at street no.8. A new white Skoda Fabia first rammed into a biker, Satish Reddy (24), then an auto before knocking down the constable. Reddy, who suffered grievous injuries, is battling for life in a corporate hospital whereas the auto driver Narasimha had a providential escape. The car driver, K. Yadagiri, too sustained injuries in the incident and has been admitted to a private hospital at Dilsukhnagar, the police said. Rai, a resident of Mallapur, was working at the Kacheguda traffic police station since 2003. His death came as a rude shock to his colleagues and friends. “He was very sincere and punctual to duty,” said Babu Rao, his colleague. Osmania University Sub-Inspector Shaik Ghouse Moinuddin said a case of rash and negligent driving under Section 304(A) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against car driver Yadagiri. “We will arrest him after he is discharged from the hospital,” he said. Rai’s death was a big loss to the family as his wife has been ailing. Senior police officials, including Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) N.V. Surendra Babu consoled the constable’s family and gave them Rs.15,000 towards funeral expenses.
