PRIMARY WORK: Precast concrete block being placed for the subway construction at Srirangam Railway Station. — TIRUCHI: Work on the construction of the much awaited subway at Srirangam Railway Station on an outlay of Rs. 40 lakh commenced on Tuesday. The subway will connect platform 1 with platforms 2 and 3. People of Srirangam have been demanding this facility for a long time as they face a lot of difficulties in moving from one platform to another. To facilitate the work, the Railways suspended train service on all the three platforms on Tuesday. The regular services were operated on the loop-line on the non-platform side. The Railways has already got ready 10 concrete blocks. Work on removal of earth and the placing of blocks at the end point on platform number 3 was undertaken. Railway sources said that the services would be resumed on platform No. 3 after the insertion of the blocks under the track after removing the earth on Wednesday and on the other two platforms on Thursday. The flooring, fixing tiles on the side walls, roofing, lighting, construction of stair cases leading to the platforms will be undertaken after this. Expected to be completed in 45 days, it is being executed under the direct supervision of Senior Divisional Engineer S. Ashok Kumar and Divisional Engineer S. Anbazhagan. Divisional Railway Manager R. Subramhanyan and Additional Divisional Railway Manager S. Ramasubbu inspected the progress of the work.
