CISF registers assault complaint against two

Thiruvananthapuram: An airport security officer attached to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) here has given a complaint to the city police accusing two passengers of assaulting him and others at the arrival hall of the airport’s international terminal building here on Saturday.

On the basis of the complaint, the Valiathura police booked Raman Pillai Raghu Adeekalathu alias Madathil Raghu, 49, (passport number: Z 1793174) and his co-passenger, Ahmed Mohammed Al-Jalak, a British national (passport number 540280778), on charges of drunken and riotous behaviour, causing simple hurt and illegally detaining people.

The case (Valiathura police station crime 54/2009) has been registered under sections 290, 341 and 323 of the Indian Penal Code. Mr. Raghu is a non-resident Keralite businessman operating a chain of bar hotels in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He hails from Kollam district.

In his complaint, CISF Inspector Subroto Chatterjee said the duo had disembarked at the airport from flight number EK 522, an airliner inbound from the UAE.

They caused ‘nuisance and unruly acts’ at the immigration counter. Mr. Chatterjee, who was the CISF shift-in-charge, at the terminal said he ‘noticed that the two passengers were abusing every passenger and staff of various agencies of the airport’” The alleged incident occurred at 3.45 a.m.

He said in his complaint that the passengers ‘were beating all those who were trying to tackle them.’ Their acts, he said, were ‘totally unruly, uncontrolled and offensive which caused nuisance of criminal nature.’ He said they beat several other passengers in front of the Airport Manager, Airports Authority of India; the Airport Medical Officer, Customs officials and CISF personnel.

He alleged that the accused ‘made him fall and beat him.’ Mr. Chatterjee said in his complaint that ‘they abused lady passengers who were standing in the arrival hall for immigration clearance.’

Another passenger, Rajesh Kumar, gave a complaint to the Airport Manager stating that the accused had assaulted him.

The airport security personnel overpowered the accused and handed them over to the local police.

Assistant Commissioner (Shanghukhom) S. Sanal Kumar said the suspects were taken from the station in a police vehicle to the General Hospital at 8 a.m. Assistant Surgeon A.K. Anaaz examined them.

In his report to the police, Mr. Anaaz noted that the suspects had consumed alcohol but was not under its influence. He said they had not given consent to take and preserve their urine and blood samples for chemical examination.

Mr. Sanal Kumar said the police did not press the charge of preventing government officials from doing their duty because the CISF official had not mentioned so in his complaint.

He denied reports that the police had come under pressure not to press charges against the accused.

The accused were let off on bail from the Valiathura police station at 9.30 a.m. The CISF impounded the passports of the accused along with their check-in and ticket details and handed over these to the police.
