They recalled the writings of Gurajada Appa Rao beginning with “Diddibaatu” in 1910. About 150 writers from across the State participated in the two-day centenary celebrations of “Telugu Kathanika” at Lions Community Hall here on Saturday. Munipalle Raju inaugurated the celebrations at the house of noted writer Gurajada Appa Rao in the morning. Procession
Later, writers Veeraji, Kaluva Mallaiah, Vihari, Avasarala Ramakrishna Rao, Rasa Raju, Kalipatnam Rama Rao, M. Suguna Rao, Chaganti Tulasi, Mudiganti Sujata Reddy and a host of others went in a procession and garlanded the statue of Appa Rao near M.R. College (Autonomous) and reached the venue. At the celebrations, Veeraji released “Kotha Neeru”, a book consisting of 15 short stories, penned by Vihari. Poranki Dakshina Murty, a noted writer and programme coordinator, said that the celebrations were akin to “pedda pandaga for writers.” Later, they felicitated Munipalle Raju, Kalipatnam Rama Rao and Gandikota Brahmaji Rao. Vedagiri Rambabu, of Sri Vedagiri Communications (Hyderabad), organised the celebrations.
