A weird flick, avoid it

Film: Nenu Devudni

Cast: Arya, Puja

Direction: Bala

A father imposes an exile of 14 years on his son Rudra (Arya) on the advice of an astrologer, so he leaves him in Kasi and visits him later only to find him become an Aghora. Rudra is sent home by his gurus and asked to return after severing familial and emotional ties.

The Aghora or Kal Bhairav who now finds it difficult to socialise and live as a normal human, moves to a mountain and mingles with sadhus and deformed people.

Parallel story

There runs a parallel story of a mafia led by Thandav (Thamizmani) who forces people to beg and makes a living out of their earnings. The story takes a turn with the mafia leader trying to sell a blind girl and her seeking Rudra’s help. How Rudra, who declares himself God, vanquishes Thandav forms the rest of the story.

The film maker makes a mockery of beggars and shows them as wearing the masks of different gods to create empathy deviating from the story.

Just to show that he has come into this world to punish the wrong doers and free the good from pain, he kills the blind beggar who pleads for moksha.

Brilliant photography and re-recording, haunting music by Ilayaraja, impeccable performances by Arya and Pooja are the only plus points.

Content wise the film creates a feeling of horror, disgust and extreme repulsion, as director Bala concentrates on the perverse side of human nature.
