Centre must speak in one voice: BJP

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday was critical of the contradictory statements made by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and National Security Advisor M.K. Narayanan on whether or not Pakistan has got back to India on the Mumbai terror investigation. The party urged the government to speak in one voice.

Party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said these differing and different voices sent wrong signals internationally and enabled Pakistan to mount diplomatic offensives against India.

“For the sake of the country, please speak in one voice,” Mr. Prasad said.

On reports that Pakistan was likely to say the attack was not planned in Pakistan when it got down to responding to the dossier on the Mumbai terror attacks handed to it by India, Mr. Prasad wanted to know what the government’s response would be to such a situation.

Some concerted effort on the part of the government was necessary and the government should reflect on this.
