‘Divide and rule’ policy will not work: Rahul

Special Correspondent

AHMEDABAD: All-India Congress Committee general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Friday indirectly accused the BJP of following a policy of “divide and rule.”

Addressing a youth meeting to mark the conclusion of the Gujarat Congress party’s month-long “Abhay Udan” (Fearless Flight to the Future) programme, Mr. Gandhi said while the Congress strived for unity among people, its main rivals tried to sow fear and divide them.

Without naming the BJP, Mr. Gandhi said the clash of ideologies had always remained dominant in Indian politics and it was not possible for those who advocated the policy of ‘divide and rule’ to come to power without pitting one section against another on the lines of caste, creed or religion.

Paying rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on Martyrs Day, he said in the father of the nation he had found a “personal guide” who showed him the path whenever he felt confused. He said he kept a book of Gandhiji’s quotes on his table, and whenever he was in trouble he leafed through its pages. “I have always found answers to my questions,” he said and thanked Gujarat for “presenting to India” the “great son.”
