New look: The Lord Saneeswara Bhagawan Temple at Tirunallar KARAIKAL: The Puducherry Government has started the Rs.165-crore temple town development project at Tirunallar, the famous pilgrimage centre where Saneeswara Temple, is located in Karaikal district. The project will be implemented in two phases. Nearly Rs.147 crore is estimated for various development works in the first phase and Rs.18 crore in the second phase. Lt. Governor of Puducherry Govind Singh Gurjar, laid the foundation stone for the project at Tirunallar on Wednesday in the presence of Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam, Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Planning, V. Narayanasamy. The entire project will be implemented through the loan from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) and the preliminary work of land acquisition for various development works is progressing and the work will commence thereafter. The aim of the project was to provide facilities for the pilgrims from various parts of the country and abroad every year to worship the Lord Saneeswara at the Dharbaranyeswarar temple and to attract tourists to Karaikal district. Temple tankIn the first phase, Rs.147 crore will be spent for works including revitalisation of the famous ‘Nalan Kulam’ (the temple tank where King Nala took holy bath, according to legends), special complex for the pilgrims to come in queue to the temple, inner ring road in Tirunallar, strengthening local roads, accommodation facilities for pilgrims and a new building for the Government Girls Higher Secondary School.
