Pranab is West Bengal PCC chief

NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee was appointed president of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC) on Thursday. He replaces Priyaranjan Dasmunsi, who has been in hospital since mid-October when he suffered a cardiac arrest.
Announcing the decision here, All-India Congress Committee general secretary in charge of organisational matters, Janardan Dwivedi, said that due to the prolonged illness of Mr. Dasmunsi, Congress president Sonia Gandhi has approved the proposal for appointing Mr. Mukherjee as WBPCC president with immediate effect till the Lok Sabha elections.
Ms. Gandhi has also constituted a Campaign Committee and Coordination Committee for the WBPCC. She also approved the setting up of a Campaign Committee for the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee.
