TIRUCHI: A one-day workshop for the volunteers of NSS units of schools was organised in the city on Monday in connection with the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, which is observed as the National Youth Day. Students from various city schools and those from the outskirts participated in the workshop, which was organised by the National Service Scheme of the State Directorate of School Education at the Bishop Heber Higher Secondary School here. Headmaster of Puthur Bishop Heber HSS M. Anburaj inaugurated the workshop. Prof. Srinivasan from the National College spoke on the life history and achievements of Swami Vivekananda and called upon the younger generation to follow his teachings. Professor of Tamil at Periyar E. V. R. College P. Venkatesan spoke on the topic ‘Brave young men in literature’, besides highlighting the incidents that took place in the Sangam Period. He called upon the students to develop confidence and always speak the truth. Senior Tamil Teacher of Puthur Bishop Heber HSS Charles spoke on the role of youths in social service.
