GIFT: Collector T. Soundiah distributing sari to a convict in the Special Prison for Women in Tiruchi on Tuesday.
TIRUCHI: Saris and dhotis were distributed to female and male convicts lodged in the Central Prison and Special Prison for Women here on Tuesday in connection with the Pongal festival. At a function held at the Special Prison for Women, Collector T. Soundiah distributed saris to 73 women convicts besides giving away new garments to 17 children of women inmates. The Collector also distributed saris to family members of prisoners and gave away Pongal kits, each containing one kilogram rice, equal quantity of jaggery, dry grapes, cardamom and ghee, to them on the occasion. The saris and dhotis were sponsored by members of business community. Deputy Inspector General of Prisons, Tiruchi Range, R. Durairaj distributed dhotis to 70 male convicts, who were released on parole on Tuesday, at a function held at the Camp Jail. Superintendent of Prison, Central Prison, Tiruchi, A. Murugesan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) R. Chinnasamy and jail officials were present.
