Steps taken to issue photo identity cards to new voters: Collector

Staff Reporter

TIRUCHI: The district administration has taken all steps for issuing the Elector’s Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) to all the voters whose names were included afresh as of November 10, 2008.

In a press release issued here on Tuesday, the District Collector T. Soundaiah said that the draft electoral rolls of voters of all the nine Assembly segments were released on November 10 last year. Those whose names were newly included in these rolls would now get the EPICs. The EPICs would be distributed through the bill collectors of the respective zones in the Tiruchi Corporation and through the Village Administrative Officers in other segments. The EPICs would be delivered in person to the newly enrolled voter or to any other member of that family aged above 18 years.

Corrections would also be entertained to those who are already in possession of EPICs with some error or inaccuracy in vital details such as name, sex, age or photo identity, for which EPIC centres had been functioning at the Corporation office and all taluk offices in the district since January 5.

The voters should submit an application, available at these EPIC centres, duly filled in, specifying the correction or corrections required.

Alternative EPIC cards would be distributed to them during the period specified for the purpose.

Further, those who had lost their EPICs or got their EPICs damaged could also obtain a duplicate EPIC by remitting Rs.15 at these EPIC centres. The duplicate cards would be distributed to them during the period scheduled for the purpose. The Collector appealed to the voters to avail themselves of this opportunity to obtain the new EPICs and also for rectifying the defects in the existing EPICs.

He also said that the draft Photo electoral rolls were released on November 10 last year.

The supplementary electoral rolls for all the nine Assembly segments, whose names were included afresh after November 10 last year, were released on Monday.
