Nationals shocks Hindustan

NEW DELHI: Last year’s runner-up Indian Nationals, Tarun Sangha Club and Youngmen Club registered victories in the preliminary league matches of the Delhi Soccer Association’s annual senior division open clubs’ league at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Tuesday.

In Group ‘B’, Indian Nationals, scoring the lone goal through Gvan Movan, tamed favourite Hindustan Club in an exciting match to collect three full points. Nationals, with 13 points from five matches, entered the super league while Hindustan has eight points from five games. In another Group ‘B’ tie, Tarun Sangha defeated City Club 1-0 to qualify for the super league. The all-important goal was scored by Altafuddin Ahmed in the 78th minute. Tarun Sangha has 13 points from five games while City has one from five games. In Group ‘A’, Youngmen registered its first victory by beating Ahbab Club 2-0. A fine brace by striker Dipankar Toy helped his team score a vital win. Youngmen has three points from three games while Ahbab has nine from four encounters. — Special Correspondent
