Overage issue rears its head

BANGALORE: Four players from Rajasthan, three from Uttar Pradesh and two from Jammu & Kashmir in the boys’ section have been ejected from the ongoing 35th junior National volleyball after being found overaged. The offenders were Azhied Iqbal and Imtiaz Ahmed (J&K), Gurtaj Singh, Manoj Khatana, Mahra Ram Gurjar and Parvin Bika (Rajasthan), Anoop Kumar, Sandeep Kumar and Mohamad Ahmad (U.P.).

Meanwhile, with Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur and Uttaranchal failing to report, the fixtures in both sections are being rescheduled.

In Tuesday’s action, South powerhouses had a mixed day in the boys’ section with Tamil Nadu overpowering Chandigarh 25-13, 25-16, 25-9 and Karnataka gaining a walkover from Madhya Pradesh in Group B, while Kerala went down 25-22, 18-25, 25-19, 25-12 to Uttar Pradesh in Group A.

Other results (league): Boys: Group A: Orissa bt Tripura 25-15, 25-10, 25-22; Maharashtra bt Himachal 25-19, 25-17, 25-17. Group B: Bihar bt Assam 25-18, 25-22, 25-15.

Girls: Group A: Kerala bt Bihar 25-0, 25-7, 25-7. Group D: Karnataka bt Punjab 25-13, 27-25, 25-21. — Special Correspondent
