ERODE: Minister for Highways and Ports M.P. Saminathan has said that the present DMK Government has been even implementing schemes that were not promised during election. Addressing a meeting recently at Thalavaipattinam, near Dharapuram, after distributing colour television sets, he said the Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi, had been implementing people-oriented schemes that were not promised in the election manifesto. ExemplarySuch an exemplary performance had come at a time, when the Opposition and those critical of the Government were wondering if the Government would be able to fulfil at least those commitments it had made in the election manifesto. The Government, the Minister said, had implemented all its election manifesto promises and in such an implementation there would not be one family that was left out. Pointing out that the best of the Government’s schemes was free distribution of colour television sets, the Minister also said that in the area of the 2,936 eligible families, 2,886 had been given the TV sets. He also touched upon the Government reducing price of rice distributed under the Public Distribution System by Re. 1 a kg and changing Tamil New Year day to underscore the point that it was a people-friendly Government. Senior officials from the district administration participated in the meeting.
