Pioneer, Century progress

KOCHI: Pioneer CC (Cherpu) and Century CC (Ernakulam) moved into the third round of the 22nd BPCL Kochi Refinery all-India cricket tournament here on Monday.

In the second round, Pioneer scored a seven-wicket win over Sharon CC (Ernakulam) while Century defeated Cycle Brand Kids CC (Thiruvananthapuram) by eight wickets.

The scores: Sharon CC 159 for nine in 30 voers (R. Rajesh 58, V. Sreejith 36) lost to Pioneer CC 164 for three in 27.4 overs (Ganasyam Prabu 70 n.o.).

Cycle Brand Kids CC 146 in 28.1 overs (S. Sachin 34, V.V. Kannan 34, Jayaraj four for 24) lost to Century CC 150 for two in 24.5 overs (Abhishek Hegde 99 n.o.).

Mar Thoma, UC win

Thiruvalla’s Mar Thoma College and host Union Christian College posted comfortable wins in the Mahatma Gandhi University inter-collegiate women’s cricket tournament at Aluva on Monday.

Mar Thoma defeated Kottayam’s BCM by 73 runs, while UC crushed St. Teresa’s, (Ernakulam) by seven wickets in the four-team league.

The scores: Mar Thoma (Thiruvalla) 121 for six in 20 overs bt BCM (Kottayam) 48 in 14 overs (Radhika four for 17); St. Teresa’s (Ernakulam) 72 in 20 overs lost to UC (Aluva) 74 for three in eight overs.

SC Seminary posts win

SC Seminary HSS (Thiruvalla) defeated St. George The Baptist HSS (Nedukunnam) 39-19 in the opening match of the Christ Challenge Trophy all-Kerala inter-school tournament at the Christ Central School court (Thiruvalla) on Monday.

Anil Joseph (14 points) top-scored for the winner which led 23-17 at half-time. Joyson Jose (10) was the leading scorer for the Nedukunnam side. Earlier, International Geethu Anna Jose inaugurated the new basketball court at the school.

The result: SC Seminary HSS (Thiruvalla) 39 (Anil Joseph 19) bt St. George The Baptist HSS (Nedukunnam) 19 (Joyson Jose 10).

Evergreen advances

Evergreen (Manjeri) entered the quarterfinals of the State inter-club football championship, beating Cochin Port Trust 4-3, via the tie-breaker, at Perinthalmanna on Sunday.

The teams were locked goalless in regulation period.

Tvm tennis trials

The trails to select the Thiruvananthapuram district tennis teams in men, women, under-18 and under-16 (boys and girls) categories will be held at the TTC courts on Jan. 17 and 18.

Those interested should give their entry by signing in the register kept at the TTC between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Jan. 14 and 15.

The participants should also bring the proof of their age for verification during registration, according to a press release from the Thiruvananthapuram district tennis association.
