Civic body considering proposal for road-widening

Staff Reporter

Kakinada: The Kakinada Municipal Corporation (KMC) is looking into a proposal for widening the road from Vontimamidi Junction to Achyutapuram railway gate which has become a major bottleneck for vehicular traffic. Other important junctions which require clearing up encroachments and widening are being identified byKMCto improveurban infrastructure.

The increasing congestion at most of these places has made road widening essential to mitigate the problem. The Kondayyapalem railway gate is another problematic spot for the KMC though it is not as troublesome as the one at Achyutapuram. The railway crossing at Sambamurthy Nagar is also seen by the KMC as a hitch for vehicular movement. A large number of heavy vehicles, particulary those bound for Kakinada port, pass through this junction giving nightmares to commuters.

All these problems are being looked into by the KMC.
