Staff Correspondent

5,628 officers, 2,500 assistants being deputed

Grants up to Rs. 45 lakh each being given to GPs

GADAG: Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Shobha Karandlaje has said that considering the slow progress in the implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) in the State, certain modifications have been made to the conditions and guidelines of the scheme.

Addressing presspersons here on Sunday, Ms. Karandlaje said certain modifications had been made in the quantum of work to be completed by a worker in a day, and also in the nature of work to be taken up under the scheme.

The Minister said that under the modified guidelines provision had been made for taking up works on school compound walls and grounds.

She said that under the scheme every gram panchayat was being given grants of Rs. 35 lakh to Rs. 45 lakh for the implementation of the scheme. At the same time, 5,628 development officers and 2,500 accounts assistants were being deputed.

Ms. Karandlaje, addressing a review meeting of the department underscored the need for coordination between employees and elected representatives for the effective implementation of government schemes.

Foundation stone

Earlier in the day, Ms. Karandlaje laid the foundation stone for the Rs. 4.03-crore drinking water supply project for Yavagal and three other villages in Ron taluk of Gadag district.
