Advani feels it should be ‘Bharatvanshi’ and not PIO
New Delhi: The term ‘People of Indian Origin’ (PIO) is very technical and bureaucratic, feels BJP leader L.K. Advani and wants people with roots in India to be called ‘Bharatvanshi’ instead.
Crediting legal expert L.M. Singhvi with coining the term, Mr. Advani said ‘Bharatvanshi’ reflected the true description of people with Indian roots settled abroad. “Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) are Bharatvashis like us — people who live here,” he said at a ceremony to mark the 30th anniversary of Antar-Rashtriya Sahyog Parishad, an NGO, here. — PTI
