Tension in Balepet

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: There was tension for some time in Balepet on Sunday following the demolition of a part of a building which housed several deities.

According to the police, K. Padmavathi Bhat, a native of Udupi, had purchased an old house on OTC Road in Balepet. People had been performing puja to the deities there under the auspices of Durgaparameshwari Seva Samithi Trust.

On Sunday, Padmavathi Bhat brought an earthmover to demolish the front portion of the building. Devotees, however, staged a protest against the demolition.

The Upparpet police rushed the spot and dispersed the mob which had gathered near the house.
