NEW DELHI: Almost a month after loud sounds similar to gunshots were heard outside Indira Gandhi International Airport here, Central Industrial Security Force personnel opened fire in the early hours of Saturday at two men who were trying to flee after being spotted near the airport’s boundary wall. No one was injured in the firing. The men, identified as Sachin Malik and Hemant Malik, were detained but later released as nothing suspicious was found on them. The CISF is entrusted with the security at the airport. The incident took place around 1-10 a.m. outside Gate No. 14 of the airport when an assistant commandant during routine night checking noticed a white Skoda car near the railway line adjacent to the perimeter wall. “A railway linesman told the CISF personnel that the two men had been sitting near the track for some time. When the CISF officials called out to them, the duo tried to hide initially and then started running towards the Skoda car,” said CISF spokesperson Rohit Katiyar. “When they began running, our personnel fired a shot in the air to stop them. But they got inside their car and tried to drive away. That’s when the assistant commandant fired two rounds at the tyres of the vehicle. The men were completely drunk when taken out. It seems they were apparently having a drink session near the railway track. They may have panicked on seeing the CISF and decided to run. Liquor bottles were recovered from the car,” he added. Sachin is from a village in Dwarka, while Hemant lives in Najafgarh. “No case has been registered as nothing suspicious was found during the interrogation of the two men. They were purportedly only consuming liquor and got scared when the CISF men confronted them. They have been let off after questioning ,” said Dinesh Tiwari, SHO of the Palam Village police station.
