Anand’s joy

CHENNAI: “I used to play tennis when I was young. Now I really enjoy watching it. It was wonderful watching Somdev play yesterday,” said World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand on Centre Court at the SDAT Stadium here on Saturday.

Brought on court for a brief felicitation, Anand said Chennai had “special ties with tennis” because so many great players had originated from the city.

Anand made way for Marin Cilic, who received the Chennai Open Fairplay Award, after winning his semifinal against Marcel Granollers. Carlos Moya had won the award last year. — Sports Reporter
