Rajasthan Assembly adjourned

Special Correspondent

After the second consecutive day of acrimonious scenes in its first session

Not taken into confidence while deciding the business, alleges BJP

Seven Bills, the motion of thanks on the Governor’s address passed by the House

JAIPUR: The newly-constituted Rajasthan Assembly was adjourned sine die on Saturday after the second consecutive day of acrimonious scenes in its first session with the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party alleging that it was not taken into confidence by the Government while deciding the business of the House.

The BJP MLAs, who disrupted the proceedings on Friday after former Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat’s charges on corruption were recounted in the House, created a furore on Saturday while alleging that Question Hour was suspended and the day’s business was decided without consulting the Opposition.

The first session of the Assembly started on New Year’s Day after the Congress-led Government took over in the State. The newly-installed Government won the vote of confidence during the session. Even as the BJP members raised slogans and trooped into the well of the House, the ruling party members took exception to the chaos being created and traded charges with the Opposition. Speaker Dipendra Singh Shekhawat adjourned the House four times before calling it a day.

The BJP MLAs disrupted a speech of Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shanti Dhariwal who claimed that they were insulting the House by calling into question the “unanimous decision” of the Business Advisory Committee. The House passed seven Bills as well as the motion of thanks on the Governor’s address to the Assembly with voice vote amid the continuing din. The Government’s reply to the motion could not be taken up due to the noise created by the two sides. Earlier, the House condoled the death of former MLA Durgalal Badhdar by observing two minutes’ silence.
