In Kashmir, tourist spots of Pahalgam and Kokernag were the coldest LUCKNOW: With four more persons succumbing to cold since Friday, the death toll during the current cold wave in Uttar Pradesh has mounted to 74. A fisherman died at Indira Barrage while another succumbed to the cold in Kakori area of the city. Two persons succumbed to the cold in Maharajaganj district, official sources here said. Meanwhile, Director of Education Krishna Mohan Tripathi said all schools in the State would reopen on Monday. Minimum temperatures in most parts of the State were recorded in excess of 11 degrees Celsius, with Agra recording 11 degrees, Bareilly 11.5 and Gorakhpur 12.5. Lucknow recorded a minimum of 12.8 degrees followed by Kanpur (13.4 degrees), Varanasi 14.6 and Jhansi 15.6 degree. Moradabad was the coldest place in the State with a minimum of 9.9 degrees Celsius. Cold lessens in HaryanaChandigarh: Cold wave conditions on Saturday eased in most parts of Haryana as the minimum temperature increased, but Punjab continued to be under its grip, with Ludhiana coldest at 3.5 degrees Celsius. There was no respite for Amritsar with minimum at 3.6 C. Patiala also braved a cold night at 5.8 C, one below normal. The minimum at Chandigarh was 7.6 C. In Haryana, Hisar registered a low of 10.2 C, while Rohtak recorded a low of 8.4 C. Narnaul continued to brave the chill registering a low of 3.5 C. Minimum increasesJaipur: Minimum temperature went up today in Rajasthan giving respite from shivering cold, an official said here. Minimum temperature in Mount Abu was recorded at 1.2 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperature in Churu was 7.1 degrees Celsius, Pilani recorded 7.5 degrees, Jaisalmer 8 degrees C and Sikar 8.5 degrees C. Unabated in J-KSrinagar: Cold wave conditions continued unabated in Jammu and Kashmir as the night temperature in Kargil and Leh districts of frontier region of Ladakh dipped to minus 18.6 and minus 15.0 degree Celsius respectively. In Kashmir, famous tourist spots of Pahalgam and Kokernag were the coldest with minimum temperatures of minus 2.8 and minus 2.7 degree Celsius respectively, MET office said. Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway recorded a low of minus 1.0 degrees Celsius. Kupwara in north Kashmir witnessed a low of minus 1.1 degrees Celsius, while Srinagar recorded 0.1 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal. Jammu, winter capital of the State, recorded a low of 8.3 degrees Celsius followed by Katra (8.1), Batote (1.0), Banihal (0.1) and Bhaderwah (0.6). -- PTI
