Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh convener of the National Dalit Front on Saturday reiterated that the Front will convene its meeting on January 13 as scheduled, and asked the Chief Minister to explain how secretary general of the NDF Udit Raj will harm the law and order situation. In a statement issued here, State convener of the Front Kalicharan asked, “Is Udit Raj a terrorist that he will hold the law and order situation to ransom? And whether the U.P. Government does not have enough resources to control it.” When they organise programme at different places in Lucknow, where over a lakh people come, then what happens to the law and order situation, he added. Accusing the Mayawati Government of not granting permission for the programme, the convener said, “the BSP Government is afraid that such an umbrella unit of Dalits will snatch its vote-base.” “Since the Mayawati Government came to power in Uttar Pradesh, there has been a rise in crimes against the Dalits,” he added. The January 13 meeting will see president of the Front and Lok Jan Shakti leader Ramvilas Paswan, senior Republican Party of India leader Ramdas Athawale and other Dalit leaders addressing the meet, the statement informed. -- PTI
