TIRUCHI: The Golden Rock Railway Workshop here has earned a revenue of Rs. 127.9 crore by undertaking Periodic Overhaul (POH) of locomotives belonging to Public Sector Units (PSU) over the years. The workshop has set a target of carrying out POH of 22 PSU locomotives during the current financial year, the Chief Mechanical Engineer, Southern Railway V. Carmelus said after flagging off the 200th PSU diesel engine at a function organised at the workshop here on Saturday. The 200th loco belongs to the Durgapur Steel Plant which is one of the major customers of the workshop. He said the workshop carries out POH of 140 diesel locomotives every year including 20 to 22 engines belonging to various PSUs. Several PSUs had evinced interest in sending their locomotives from the Northern and Eastern part of the country to the Golden Rock Railway Workshop in Tiruchi primarily due to its excellent reputation and the high quality of work, he pointed out. The workshop started POH from 1995 by rehabilitating and giving a fresh lease of life to a loco of Tata Iron and Steel Company Limited. He said five metre gauge diesel locos would be exported to Malaysia shortly after carrying out necessary modifications in them. It would export two MG locos to Mozambique after converting as cape gauge engines before this financial year. The Chief Workshop Manager, Golden Rock Railway Workshop J. Digi, V. Vijayan, Assistant General Manager, Durgapur Steel Plant, officers, supervisors and staff were present.
