Marshal-Anbazhagan enter semifinals

TIRUCHI: Marshal and Anbazhagan defeated Subash and Udayakumar 29-25, 29-11 to book a place in the semifinals of the all-India invitation senior doubles ball badminton tournament here on Saturday.

Easy for Bharathidasan

Host Bharathidasan University scored an easy 29-3, 29-4 win over Karnataka State Women’s University and advanced to the pre-quarterfinals of the all-India inter-varsity ball badminton tournament for women on Saturday.

YMCA advances

At Krishnagiri, YMCA School (Chennai) and RSK HSS (Tiruchi) scored comfortable wins to enter the semifinals of the State-level schools football tournament for the TFA Kittu Trophy on Saturday.

YMCA blanked Government HSS (Thanjavur) 4-0 and RSK defeated New Life MHSS (Tirunelveli) by a similar margin.

The results: Quarterfinals: NLC Boys HSS (Neyveli) 2 bt Govt. Arignar Anna HSS 0; YMCA (Chennai) 4 bt GHSS (Thanjavur) 0; Green Valley MHSS (Ooty) 2 bt St. Mary’s HSS (Madurai) 1; RSK HSS (Tiruchi) 4 bt New Life MHSS (Tirunelveli) 0.

Pre-quarterfinals: GHSS (Thanjavur) 1 bt St. Mary’s (Pudukottai) 0; Green Valley bt Arunachalam HSS (Sivaganga) 4-3 (1-1) via tie-breaker; Govt. Arignar Anna HSS (Poonamallee) bt GHSS (Vellore) 9-8 (2-2) via sudden death, New Life MHSS (Tirunelveli) bt Little Flower (Salem) 4-3 via tie-breaker.

PSGCAS wins

At Coimbatore, PSG College of Arts and Science defeated Bharathiar University by eight wickets and emerged the champion of the T20 cricket tournament, conducted as part of the Coimbatore Vizha on Saturday.

After bundling out the opposition for 95, PSGCAS scored the required runs with six overs to spare. Thirumurugan of PSGCAS was declared the Man of the Series.

VLB Janakiammal College of Engineering and Technology and Dr. Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology finished third and fourth respectively. B. Balamurugan, Passport Officer, Coimbatore, was the chief guest. Dr. K. Natarajan, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, PSG Tech, gave away the prizes.

The scores: Final: Bharathiar University 95 in 19 overs lost to PSG CAS 99 for two in 14 overs.
